In summer, there is a local ferry departing once a week from the port of Piraeus to Monemvasia, Kithyra, Antikythira and Kissamos Crete. This ferry departs on Friday afternoon and returns on Sunday evening.
There are daily buses to Monemvasia departing from Kifissos KTEL Station in Athens. Buses to Monemvasia operate via Sparti or Molai.
The road trip from Athens to Monemvasia is 5 hours. Drivers follow the National Highway from Athens to Corinth and Tripolis. After Tripolis, they follow the signs to Sparti and Monemvasia. The road from Tripolis to Monemvasia is not highway but rural, which means that it has only one line per direction.
