Kyparissia Villages: Spilia village in Kyparissia
Spilia village Kyparissia: As the biggest Municipality in Kyparissia, Spilia village (its name means ˜cave" in Greek) is located 5 km southeast of the city of Kyparissia. Towards the east you shall see the impressive Mountain Egaleo, towards the west you will find the serene Kyparissia Bay and between the two lays the lowland with olives, potatoes, watermelons and other vegetables and fruits, growing in its fertile bosom.

The village was founded in 1833 and named after a small cave near Scandali's gully. The Church of the Virgin Mary's Assumption was founded in 1876 where the 23rd of August is celebrated. Another local celebration to enjoy when in Spilia is Saint Sferdoukla day. The villagers move east to point that was known as "Xondroligia" every Shrove Monday in order to feast with the villagers of neighboring villages.

You can enjoy the two-day folk celebration held on the 23rd of August. The village comes alive with live music and dancing. Another interesting celebration to note is the "haddock's celebration" held at Scandalia's fount. Here visitors are offered plenty of free wine and haddock.
A scenic walk through the village square will enthrall you with sights such as traditional founts including Scandalia's fount, a Monument raised in memory of the children who lost their lives in the German mine blast in Fotiadis and the epic War Monument situated in front of the school.
