Armeni village Kyparissia: Armeni is a lovely village located at a distance of 5 km from the town of Kyparissia. There are several stories associated to the origin its name. Some say that the first residents of the village were from Armenia. It is also said that it was named after Argonaut Armenos, the grandson of Aeolus, the ancient god of the winds.
In the ancient times, the village was located more towards the southern end, where at present the fountain of Pritzipas is located. A column of an old temple has been founded at that point. Later on, due to dominance of Christianity, the temple was converted into a Church.
Armeni has fertile land and that is the principal reason for its agricultural prosperity. The chief crop grown in this village is Okra and Armeni is a large producer of Okra. In fact, in August, there is a festival in Armeni dedicated to Okra. |
