Kalavryta Greece is a beautiful small town to the north of the Peloponnese. It is famous for its ski center, located just 15 km far from the town, and its old, byzantine monasteries, such as the Monastery of Agia Lavra and Mega Spileo. The surrounding area is also beautiful and provides great views to the mountains of the Peloponnese and the Vouraikos Gorge. Kalavryta is accessible by road and rail from Athens and Patras and the trip takes only for a few hours.

An overview of Kalavryta (or Kalavrita) Greece...


Kalavryta is a small town to the north of Peloponnese, in a mountainous area. It is mostly known for its recent history and stands as a symbol of freedom for Greece. This is where the Greek War of Independence was declared in 1821, in the hereby Monastery of Agia Lavra and also this is where one of the most horrible holocausts happened, during the Second World War.

Kalavryta has nowadays developed a significant tourist flow and has become a major winter destination among Greeks and foreigners. The creation of Helmos Ski Center has certainly contributed in this flourishing. Apart from that, many accomodation options and tourist facilities provide visitors with everything they need to enjoy a relaxing stay!

Helmos Ski Center is located only 15 km from the town center. It has 12 runs with a total lengh of 20 km and 7 ski lifts. Its runs are suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers.

Trainers will help you to learn how to ski and if you get tired, you can have a coffee or a lunch in the coffee shop, with view to the snowy mountains.

The Ski Center attracts lots of visitors every year and has turned Kalavryta from a rural small town into a famous winter resort. Since most tourists choose Kalavryta for their weekend destination, they stay within the town and go to the ski center to have some fun. You are also adviced to do so, because a visit to Kalavryta would be uncomplete with spending some hours to the ski center.
