The town of Gythio and the villages around it have managed to kept their traditional architectural style. They are known for their strong fortresses, small houses and paved roads. A few people live in these villages today but they keep well the traditions of Mani.

Location: Located in the centre of the Laconian Gulf
Description: This small seaside town gets very lively in summer because many tourists come to spend their holidays. The trademark of Gythio is Kranae islet, which is connected to the bmainland through a stretch of land.

Location: Located 18 km to the south west of Gythio
Description: This small village has many abandoned fortresses that were once used to protect the area from the enemies.

Location: Located 14 km to the south west
