A chance for quiet vacation

Ermioni is a beautiful small harbor which is located in the prefecture of Argolida. You can reach Ermioni within two hours from Athens both by car and by hydrofoil. Fine, it may take 3 hours by car because the road is a bit winding.

Those who like calm seaside towns, this is their place. There are several taverns and restaurants for all tastes, good food and friendly people who make you feel like home. Beaches are quiet and only two of them are in a walking distance from Ermioni. One in the front side of the village and the other on the back side. It's better if you go early in the morning because it gets really busy a few hours later but if you wish to stay until late at night you will find some bars and cafeterias around the beach. Above the port, there was our favourite cafeteria, in an old windmill with tables in the yard and great view to the sea.

It is advisable to rent a bike or car and travel around Ermioni where you have many cultural places and villages to see. We suggest you go to Porto Heli for a drink at night in the cosmopolitan port and Ancient Epidaurus, only an hour away from Ermioni. Instead you can pass to Hydra by flying dolphin or Spetses. They are both small islands which can become crowded in high season just because there are very close to Athens.

I actually didn't expect Ermioni to be so picturesque, but it is!! This is a nice, small town to have some relaxing days. Typically the waterfront is lined by lovely cafeterias and taverns and has view to the port. On a hill above Ermioni, there is an old preserved windmill and a cafeteria underneath it, from where you can see the whole area. A little lower, there is a charming chapel of Agios Gerasimos with a red dome.

The area is very green and ideal for walking. No sight to see, so I expect three or four days would be great to enjoy the town and relax. There is a flying dolphin to Hydra three or four times a day if you need an excursion, or you can drive to Porto Heli. The only bad thing is that there are no good beaches in Ermioni, too narrow and rocky, at least the beaches within a walking distance from the port. The centre of the village is traditional but streets are very narrow, one car barely fits through them. If you meet another car on the way, this is a problem.

We had booked our hotel room in Spetses for a week but it seemed that 6 nights were too many for Spetses. So, we set out an excursion to Ermioni, only 20 minutes away by hydrofoil. It is a small town that ressembles a lot to an island. A typical seaside town actually, with taverns by the sea, gift shops and hotels. We didn't go swimming, just took a stroll in the waterfront. In the evening, we took the boat back to Spetses. We were told that the inland of Ermioni was more beautiful and very green, but unfortunately we didn't have a car to go. Maybe another time. Greece is so big and so beautiful that once is not enough to enjoy a place.

Although Ermioni is a small village, surprisingly it is much developed. We stayed there for a few days on our way to Porto Heli to get the ferry to Spetses. You will see many luxurious and impressive hotels there and lovely gift shops. The beaches are fine and it has some picturesque, quiet villages around. Not many things to see, just plenty of nature to relax.

Ermioni is more of a small lovely town. There isn't much sightseeing to do in the area, except for some churches and villages. I found the beaches pretty rocky and pebbled, but very clear. We passed by Ermioni on our tour around Peloponnese. It is nice to stay for a couple of days, but do not spend all of your holidays there.

Since Greece happens to be my favourite destination, I have spent many summer and winter holidays in different Greek places. Last July I decided to explore Peloponnesus and during my tour I spent one day in the village of Ermioni. I arrived there by car from Porto Heli, where we were settled for some days, I don't exactly remember but it didn't last very long. The village is actually a nice place, not that special, but it is quiet popular and has tourists . I liked its square where we had our morning coffee. If you are coming from Athens, I recommend to take the boat from there, it is a more comfortable trip, since the roads are not very good.

I visited Ermioni a couple of years ago. I didn't knew the Peloponnese well and that was a great opportunity to see some of it. I went there by car and was impressed by the pine forests. The road was very difficult (lots of turns) and wished I took the boat.
We stopped at the Corinth's cannal were we experienced Bungy Jumping. It was amazing. 90 metres.
The village of Ermioni itself is nothing special but a really pleasant place to be. There are a some tavernas and cafes on the other side of the town. I wasn't expecting more activities than that anyway. As we had a car we went for excursions at Porto Heli and Epidaurus. We also saw a play there. Nice experience.
