Ermioni Festivals, Greece: Information about the Festivals of Ermioni, Peloponnese

Ermioni Festivals: According to the typical Greek tradition, most of the celebrations in Ermioni are related to religious subjects but, in general terms, they do not consist of liturgical events.

Instead, they are basically occasions in which the local residents, along with the visitors share amusing times of eating and native dancing, while listening to traditional music.

Along Greece, most of the celebrations take part between the months of July and August, which fortunately coincide with high season in terms of tourism.

One example of this, is the festival of Agii Anargyri. This monastery concentrates more and more tourists every year.

The celebration consists of a reverent Mass, accompanied with traditional songs. Then, there are traditional dances that cheer the atmosphere up, as they reflect the lively character of the locals. Another good occasion is the day of the Epiphany.

According to Greek Orthodoxy that rules the country in religious terms, most islands observe this event by dedicating the day to commemorate the revelation of Jesus to humanity.

This takes place on January,
6th –twelve days after Christmas. However, in the particular case of Ermioni, the Epipany celebration takes part in a very unique and cheerful way, called ‘yala-yala’.

On the Easter Sunday the celebration of the funeral of Judas takes place between late April to early May each year in Ermioni.

Another popular celebration is Shrove Monday, a festival dedicated to the fishermen taking place in Mandrakia, a popular area that concentrates the night life and the most amusing places on the town.

At the end of August, the chain of festivals starting in July finishes in a choral festival in Ermioni, until the next year.
