Pelion has its very own peculiar and unique architecture. Buildings are mainly constructed with stone and wood coming from the area.
Every house has a characteristic roof made of local grey coloured slate.
The famous mansions of Pelion are built in a tower shape with three floors. The two first ones are built of local stones, with thick stone-paved walls and a few small openings for windows.
Above the entrance door there is a marble or a stone lintel.

Wooden stairs link the ground floor to the tampanas (middle floor) where the kitchen is.
In contrast to the other floors, the third floor is made of light wood

On the floor and the walls thick woollen carpets are posed.
The first neoclassical elements in the interior and exterior mansions of Pelion’s decoration started to appear in the middle of the 19th century.
Visitor can also find Byzantine and post-Byzantine architecture in the many beautiful churches and monasteries of Pelion. |
