A total solar eclipse that was visible from Greek territory took place on March 29, 2006. However, only the residents and visitors on the islands of Crete and Kastellorizo were lucky enough to observe the total solar eclipse. The eclipse commenced at 12:34 p.m and was over by 3:10p.m.

The previous two total solar eclipses occurred in 1936 and 1870. The people of Greece will have to wait another 80 years to see the next total solar eclipse, scheduled for 2088. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon obstructs the view of the Sun as seen from the Earth.
