First time I came to Greece was in 1987 with a huge backpack walking across the border at Doiran Lake to catch the train heading Thessaloniki. Our intention was to reach Olympos, but we were stacked in a cave on its slopes because of rain. But great experience of sleeping on the beach together with goats, Thessaloniki market bargaining and the taste of ouzo impressed me and I decided to return. At least once.
In 2011 I was in Greece the 10th time, this time sleeping in Nafplion. Betwen 1987 and 2011 I was some weeks traveling around Peloponnese, once in Samos and Thassos, twice on Crete, once more around Thessaloniki, twice in Athens, but never long enough, crossing N Greece from Iogumenitsa to Meteora...
There were several moments to remember as an earthquake in Kalamata, fish dinner with the restaurant owner in Koroni, sunset coffee with a good friend in Monemvasia, birthday party in a cave below Olympos, almost broken ribs close to Tripoli, best baklavas in Angelochori, strike time in Athens, sunburns in Kalogria, flat bicycle tire in Heraklion, improvized lunch somwhere in the E of Crete, etc etc
And I am sure I will return. At least once more. ;)
