Hello, I don't think it is a viper of any sort because it's head doesn't look the right shape to me, and it had a long slender tail. It was very slender and small, so possibly a young snake. I have not been able to identify it from images I have found online. It was curled up in a tiny patch of sunshine under pine trees on the edge of an olive grove on the side of a hill. In shape it was most like a mediterranean cat-snake I think.
