On our second day on Kefalonia staying at Aghia Efimia I was on my way to the bakery at 8am when I witnessed the arrival to the small fishing harbour of a massive boat fitted with giant cranes. The boat was still tieing up to the dockside when the first truck arrived to take the cargo. Such precision timing in Greece came as quite a surprise.

The boat was carrying another 6 giant wind turbines to add to those already working on the nearby hills.

The crew worked none stop for several days to offload the cargo. When the main components were removed by the jib cranes a travelling goliath crane removed the hold covers so that the jibs could get at the rest of the equipment stored below. Everything was then taken to a large prepared field where a mobile crane was standing to offload. Then over a number of days the masts were put onto low loader trucks to be taken up into the hills. In order to be able to negotiate one bend in the road the trucks had to cover the first couple of miles in reverse.
