Thessaloniki Museums: The Cinema Museum of Thessaloniki Greece, Macedonia

Thessaloniki Cinema MuseumThe Cinema Museum of Thessaloniki Greece, Macedonia: The Cinema Museum is placed in the area of Thessaloniki port, at the building of Warehouse A, on quay 1, near Aristotelous square. This museum was established in 1997, when Thessaloniki was the European Cultural Capital. Its establishment coincided with the celebration of the centenary of cinematography.

The aim of the museum is to collect, preserve and display items related to the history of cinema in Greece. The museum is based on the collection of Nikos Bililis, a cinematographer from Thessaloniki. The exhibits include cinema machinery, such as cameras, cinema-film developing tanks and lenses, photographs from almost two thousand movies, cinema posters and tapes of musical backgrounds.

The Cinema Museum also has an archive from 1985 and on, which includes information on film festivals and biographical data of actors and directors. There is a similar project in process for the period from 1926 to 1985. The Cinema Museum organizes frequent tours and shows with abstracts of Greek films presented in a small cinema room.
