The Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art is participating in the exhibition The Desire for Freedom: Art in Europe since 1945, the 30th exhibition of the Council of Europe. The museum participates with a parallel exhibition entitled Art in Europe since 1945: Beyond Boundaries, opening on February 8th and featuring more than 200 works of art from renowned Greek and foreign artists. The exhibition will last until May 4th, 2014.

The EU artistic event Desire for Freedom attempts to examine common European values and ideas of enlightenment, as well as to explore the social and political landscape of contemporary Europe after the Cold War. Parallel exhibitions take place in many European cities, including Berlin, Prague, Milan, and Sarajevo.

This exhibition in the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art presents the European artistic reality through the work of Greek artists, who were scattered around Europe during the post-War era chased by the then Greek government for their left political beliefs. Unpublished documents and works of art explore the relationships that were developed between European and Greek artists, this group of people who were forced to move from one place to another in order to support the ideals of freedom, democracy and human rights.
