Some Thessaloniki topics of interest
:: Ancient Sites
The rich culture and long history of Thessaloniki is present through the various ancient sites that survive today in the centre of the town. The most famous monument of Thessaloniki is certainly the White Tower, at the waterfront, which has become the symbol of the town through the years. Equally famous is the Kamara, which is actually the arch that Roman general Galerius constructed to celebrate its victory against the Persians in the 3rd century AD.
In the centre of Thessaloniki, you can also visit the Roman Agora, an ancient theatre and the Palace of Galerius, which stand there as remainings of the Roman Era. The Byzantine Period of Thessaloniki has left beautiful churches all over the town, which in fact have been included in the Unesco List of World Heritage Monuments. Plenty of museums dot the town and a walk through the picturesque quarter of the Old Town will revive the interesting past of Thessaloniki.
