Porto Koufo beach Halkidiki: Porto Koufo, one of the two ports of ancient Toroni, has retained its original name, which according to the Greek language means "Deaf Port", a name given by the ancient inhabitants. The port is regarded among the safest and largest natural ports in Northern Greece.
In the Medieval times, Porto Koufo was served as a haven for pirates who attacked Halkidiki. Today, it is a small fishing village with peaceful atmosphere. The beach is small, but beautiful set in a natural surrounding of dense vegetation.
There are boat trips from Porto Koufo to some of the most popular Halkidiki sights. The area around Porto Koufo is ideal for trekking. Every year, in September, Porto Koufo hosts the Festival of the Tuna. |
