Gerakini beach Halkidiki: This beach sits on the magnificent bay of Gerakini, in the Sithonia Peninsula. The beach is set among an outstandingly beautiful landscape of hills covered with pine trees that in some spots grow right down to the beachside. There is an abandoned mine at one end, a throw back to the days when the tiny village was a small community of mine workers. It was not until the 1960s that the beach began to develop as a tourist resort.
The resort is considered among the most popular in Halkidiki and attracts thousands of holidaymakers every year. Sunbathing and dining out in one of the taverns are the most favorable activities there. Although there are many hotels, bungalows and camping sites, the resort is not as touristy as others on the peninsula. |
