General:
There is no question that Zakynthos is an island of two halves. The east side is mainly made up of large tourist resorts. These are busy, full of bars and fast food eateries and in the main pretty ugly. The largest is Laganas while Tsilvi and Alykes are pretty much smaller versions. There is more variety in the beaches on the east.

Aside from the large, packed sandy areas of St Nikolas and Banana you can also find some smaller bays and, on the southern tip, the island’s best in Gerakas.
Moving inland you begin to see why the island has had so much praise heaped on it for the natural beauty. Indeed moving away from the busy coastal road of the east the flowers are more in evidence as are the firs and the heathers. |

There are some nice traditional villages in the centre of the island where you will find some good architecture and stunning churches such as St Nikolas in Kiliomeno. But it is the west coast where the unspoiled beauty is best observed. There are some superb views from Kambi and to the north you find shipwreck beach way down below the white of the cliffs. |
