Zakynthos Maries

General information

The traditional village of Maries is located 26 km west of Zakynthos Town, on the top of a verdant hill. It is a quiet and charming mountainous village full of traditional stone houses and narrow streets. It has a population of approximately 300 inhabitants most of whom are engaged in agriculture and farming.

The central square is the main attraction of the village offering a magnificent view of the Ionian Sea. Panagia Mariesotissa is the main church of Maries, housing a miraculous icon.

Boats to Navagio (Shipwreck) Beach depart from the beautiful cove of Porto Vromi in the village's vicinity. Swimming there is a unique experience as the waters are crystal-clear and the landscape is so enticing, it takes the visitors' breath away.
