Zakynthos Villages: Volimes village in Zakynthos Volimes Zakynthos: The village of Volimes is made of two villages: Ano (Up) Volimes and Kato (Down) Volimes. Both together form, in an agricultural area, a large scenic mountainous village, situated 30 kilometres north-west of the capital of Zakynthos. Volimes has kept some of the traditional houses that survived the strong earthquake of 1953 and has a church, Agia Paraskevi, also housing fine icons and frescoes.

This is still a very rural area and much of the village has been untouched by tourism. Indeed it is only to the east side that you find the stalls selling honey and quite a few cafes. The rest of the place is full of narrow winding streets and there are a couple of pretty churches. The pale yellow walls and carved windows and doors are most impressive. This is a very nice village and a good place to find the traditional side of the island. It is a long way from the most populated part of the island but only a slight detour away from the shipwreck beach. ...........................................................................................................................................
