The Post-Byzantine Art Museum of Zakynthos

Located in the capital of Zakynthos (Zante), on the south side of Solomos Square, this museum was built after the earthquake of 1953 and houses a rich collection of various ecclesiastical items, superb carved masterpieces, post-Byzantine icons screens, wooden works of art, wood carvings dating from the 16th century, reconstructed frescoes and more.

A collection of the poet's manuscripts and personal objects can be observed there, as well as the mausoleum of Solomos.

Vertzagio Folk Museum

This museum can be found in the Pigadakia village, 2 kilometres away from the village of Alykes.

The museum is a reconstitution of a traditional house: a dinning room, a kitchen and a bedroom decorated with traditional furniture and every day life utensils.

An old grind is also exposed in the museum, which was used before to press grapes and olives

12th century until the 18th century and works of art made by famous Ionian and Cretan painters.

The Museum is open daily except on Mondays, during which it is opened from 8am to 2.30pm.

Museum of Dionysios Solomos and Eminent Zakynthians

This museum stands on the square of Saint Markos and is dedicated to Dionysios Solomos, the famous Greek poet who wrote the Greek National Hymn.

Another collection is also housed in this museum, composed of many portraits, clothes and furniture of the Eminent Zakynthians as well as the
nobles blazons, icons, black and white photographs and an archaeological collection.

Museum of Grigorios Xenopoulos

This museum is close to the Church of Agios Dionysios, in the capital of Zakynthos, and is dedicated to the life and work of the Greek novelist and play writer Grigorios Xenopoulos (1867-1951).

It houses a collection of manuscripts and personal objects of the artist as well as some furniture of the writer's period.

There are two Naval Museums in Zakynthos with historical records and artifacts dating back to the Byzantine period.

Natural History Museum

The Helmis Museum of Natural History is located in the mountainous village of Agia Marina, in the centre of Zakynthos. It was established in 2000 by a private initiative and aims to present the rare flora, fauna and sealife of the island.
