island has some of the finest beaches in the country. The total length of Zakynthos across the centre is 40 km and its width is 20 km.
The topography of this island includes rocky and steep mountains on the west and fertile plains on the southeastern part. The tallest peak is Vrachionas, rising at an altitude of 758 meters.

Due to the mountainous areas, the western portion of the island has been left untouched and boasts of beautiful natural habitats.
The south eastern portion consists of vast areas with lush vegetation and this is the most tourist developed part of Zakynthos.
Though there are no rivers on the island, the soil is quite fertile and has rich amount of carbonic calcium.
Zakynthos also has several arches and cliffs stretching out into the sea at various points. |
