Zakynthos Town is capital of the island, built under the lush green hills of Bohali. Solomos Square, named after the famous Greek poet, Dionysios Solomos, is the centre of the town and has many cafes, restaurants and shops. The town has interesting museums, such as the Byzantine Museum and the Museum of Gregorios Xenopoulos, another famous literature man that was born in Zakynthos island.
Zakynthos offers to visitors some unique sights, including the Blue sea caves and Navagio (the Shipwreck) beach. A visit to the caves, especially in the morning when the rising sun illuminates the interiors and reveals the deep azure color of sea water, is truly enchanting. The world famous Navagio beach is accessed only by boat and constitutes the most photographed spot of Zakynthos island. The most popular tourist resort of Zakynthos island are Laganas and Tsilivi, particularly frequented with British tourists. These two resorts have large sandy beaches and active nightlife. Things are much quieter in the rest of the island, where visitors can see traditional villages, picturesque sceneries and amazing beaches.
