Being in Paxi on a hot summer day, in the middle of July is just amazing. For me it is one of the best Greek islands that everyone should visit, an authentic Greek island with peaceful atmosphere and extraordinary beaches, ideal for diving and spending high quality vacation. We were lucky to arrive with our own yacht at the main port of Gaios and to have access at some of the most gorgeous beaches of Paxi.

I remember well those exquisite places with unforgettable turquoise waters in Antipaxos! Vitumi beach is fantastic with the truly captivating surrounding. The beauty of the secluded coves left me speechless, the whole area is a pure heaven on earth. In Antipaxi there are a couple of restaurants serving delicious fish varieties with spectacular view to the blue sea.

Paxi is a natural paradise. What more can a man want for summer holidays? It is a wonderful island to discover with pebbled beaches and lovely trails to walk. You are given the chance to explore the secret coves of Paxi, the paths with the olive groves and the paved alleys. Paxi is great to explore this blue treasure and admire the rare greenery.

The food was a bit expensive compared to other islands. It was a bit crowded when we first arrived there, in the middle of August when many Italians invade the island. Antipaxi is the neighboring island, equally fantastic. The beaches are more like the Caribbean with many taverns to enjoy fresh fish.

People are all friendly and helpful with strangers. Probably they are used to people not talking their language. There are few bars in Lakka and Gaios, but close at about midnight. Not the nightlife of Corfu, more quiet.

I was lucky enough to travel to Greece and spend my vacation in the wonderful green islands of Paxi and Antipaxi. I stayed at a friend's house in Gaios, the biggest village of Paxi. I had only a week to spend there and my only wish was to see the astonishing beaches that my friend was talking about all these years. We started from Levrehio, only 5 minutes from Gaios, a wonderful beach with crystalline green waters. We also went to beaches like Logos and Monodendri.

However, one of the most amazing places that I ever seen in my whole life is the small island of Antipaxi. We passed across with a small boat that travels back and forth between Gaios and Antipaxi. I can easily characterize the place as the ultimate Greek island. You feel like that the island has been crystal for ages, enough to make it a paradise. The island has no habitants, only a few people go there in summer to spend the day and leave at night. The boat made the tour of this magical island and all we could see was clean exotic sea. The turquoise water was just breathtaking. Voutoumi is a wonderful pebbled beach on the northern side of the island. It is situated inside a cove with tall rock on the sides. The water is quite shallow, ideal for all ages. There is also a tavern on the hill.

I've been to Paxos twice and I can tell you it's amazing! I've been to lots of Greek islands and this is one of the best. It is just so peaceful, very hot and sunny and great restaurants with delicious Greek salads. The seas are clear and the beaches are clean. There are olive groves and hidden beaches and boat trips out, such as to Antipaxos, with beautiful sandy beaches and turquoise seas. Great for snorkling or scuba diving too as you can see octopuses, starfish etc. It's much quieter and much less busy than Corfu, which is good if you like that kind of thing. Very peaceful. Cute little shops too. You can also hire out a little boat for the day and go around the island and find secret beaches or something, really nice. Only bad point: bit expensive, but then they have to make money somehow I guess.

Go back every summer

We are seasoned visitors to Paxos and go there every year for the last 5 summers. For us, Paxos is the answer to a perfect vacation. A small island of just 19 sq km, its verdant, hilly and unspoilt landscape is a welcome change from some of the other Greek islands where the ravages of package tourism are quite evident. We disembark the ferry in Gaios, the capital of Paxos, a picturesque village built around a port (there is no airport in Paxos, but regular ferries and hydrofoils from Corfu or Igoumenitsa).

The small fishing port is filled with bobbing fishing caiques. We stayed at one of the apartments set in a lovely olive grove on a hill away from the hustle and bustle of the town. We usually rent a car (scooters are also available) and drive around the island visiting Lakka, a village on the northern coast of Paxos with its spectacular bay and sailing vessels. Next we visit Loggos, another village with a tiny port lined with tavernas and bars.

One evening we drove up to "Erimitis", a bar set on a high cliff on the west coast of Paxos. The drive up the road (if I may dare to call it so) is rather rough, but the refreshing drink and the majestic views of the sun sinking into the Ionian Sea more than makes up for the bumpy ride. There are also half-day cruises around the island and costs 20 Euros per person, kids can travel free. The experience is fantastic as our boat cruises around the west coast revealing weather beaten limestone cliffs, unique rock formations and caves. The final stop is the tiny island of Antipaxos.

We spend all our days swimming, snorkelling and relaxing in Paxos. All in all unforgettable vacations, which make you want to go back there over and over again.

It is a pity I didn't know earlier about Paxi. This is a small island only an hour away from Corfu and it impresses you with its colours. Everything is green and blue and you see so many yachts that I doubt if I have seen more even in the busiest Greek islands. The villages of Paxilook much alike and they ressemble a lot to Corfu in many points, particularly in the architecture of the arched, paved roads. The beaches are great and you can find everywhere a place to swim. Walk for a while whichever direction you want and you will find many nice bays to relax. The food is great but a bit expensive. All taverns are safe and clean. My best moment was the boat trip to Antipaxi with all these gorgeous beaches and the green around. The colour of the beaches in Antipaxi is something I can't describe, a mix of blue and white. Excellent holidays!! I miss them so much! Paxi needs no more than 3 days, but it is a must place. It is a pity to go to Corfu and miss Paxi.

Sue and I have just returned from Paxos. We enjoyed the island and the people just as much this year as last. The accommodation, pool & car were 1st rate. Prices seem to have risen quite a bit since last year, but all things considered it's still excellent value for money, look forward to returning again, hopefully later this year.

This is one of the purest regions in Greece! You will love the cozy beaches, the crystal water and the green landscape around of Paxi. Villages are nice but look a lot to each other. I didn't find many differences between Gaios and Lakka. But the beaches are awesome! So clean like mirror! Great beaches are also in Antipaxi, which is a small islet close to Paxi. You go to Antipaxi by boat from Gaios. Apart from swimmers, you will also see there many yachts moored in the coves. This is the typical picture of almost any island. I am surprised that so many yachts moor in the Greek islands, but on the other side they are so popular that this is a usual scene.

When I think of Paxi, I have in mind the tiny and gorgeous beaches around the island. I especially remember our trip to Antipaxoi island (there are frequent boats to Antipaxoi from Gaios), I think Voutoumi is of the best beaches in Ionian (along with Kathisma and Porto Katsiki beaches on Lefkada). Apart from the beaches, the rest of Paxi is a beautiful island, mostly Gaios, which is the capital. The port is lovely, especially in the evening, when small lights mark the streets and the boats. To see the rest of the island, I don't think there are buses but there are taxi boats from Gaios that go to other villages and beaches. Don't stay many days because there are not many things to see. I think 3 or 4 days are enough (unless you want to really relax), then spend the rest of your vacations in Corfu, which has a more cosmopolitan vibe.

The island is beautiful, calm and traditional. Nightlife is very quite and beaches are quite good, but not as good as in Antipaxi or Corfu. The best beach for me was the first beach on the left on the way from Loggos to Gaios. What you will not miss in Paxi is Greek food, which is always excellent! The island is great but only for a few days to relax. Then go to Corfu to find adorable beaches and fun nightlife.
