They are still surrounded by stunning natural surroundings with lush green olive groves providing them with jobs and economical resources from oil production, but they also live on fishing and tourism. Picturesque 19th century buildings can be seen from the port and the long narrow streets surrounding it.
Gaios village has been built around the natural harbour where most cultural and trade activities on the island take place. Travelers enjoy visiting Paxi Cultural centre here, or Gaios Gulf, close to the port on Panagia islet, where they can visit the Assumption Basilica and Saint Nicholas Church where they can also admire an old windmill and a Venetian fortress built around 1423.
Gaios Village still keeps the typical Greek village vibe and it is not a cosmopolitan big city. However, it has always been popular among the Italian and the English and Gaios Village receives a constant flow of tourism. It is a beautiful spot of Greece, giving foreigners the chance to meet the hospitable locals and take part of the multi- faceted activities available in the locality.
