Paxi Geography, Greece: Information about the geography of Paxi, Ionian Greece

Paxi is a cluster of six small islands in the Ionian Sea, south of Corfu. As they are so small and so close to Corfu, the myth says that Poseidon, the god of the sea, cut with his anchor a part of southern Corfu to hide his love with a sea nymph. That is how Paxi and the surrounding islets were created.

Paxi Geography 02

South of Paxi, there is the uninhabited islet of Antipaxi. Reachable by boat, Antipaxi is famous for its greenery and the crystal water. Most famous beaches are Voutoumi and Mesovrika.

Both Paxi and Antipaxi provide wonderful shelters for fishing boats and yacths.
The first thing to notice about Paxi is the typically green landscape. All the island is covered with green trees and short vegetation. The greenery reaches till the beachside and provides nice shadow in the hot summer days.

Paxi Geography 01

Most beaches and villages in Paxi are located on the eastern side of the island. The western side is more remote and distinguishes for its sea caves.

The beaches are both pebbled and sandy, but water is always clean.

The centre of Paxi is green and generally flat. The highest mountain peak is Agios Isavros at an altitude of 231 metres above sea level. From there, you get a wonderful view of the sunset on Paxi.
