One of the main villages of Paxi is Lakka, placed on the northern coast. It is a peaceful place and it counts on a good number of facilities, such as beautiful open-air restaurants and shops, mainly selling jewellery. Lakka also provides great walks on the surrounding hills’ paths, which go along ancient buildings and churches, apart from offering awesome views.
The sea is ideal for swimming, windsurfing, and other water-sports. This also makes from Lakka a good parting point for exploring the surrounding coves and bays by boat. Logos is another important village, characterized by its picturesque feature and its untouched landscapes. It has traditional taverns and restaurants surrounding its small harbour and also grocery stores, and a bakery. The beach near the village is also highly recommended.
Another great location is Antipaxi, with its main features being its sandy beaches and natural beauty. Antipaxi is located at 2 km in south direction from Paxi, and there is an express boat service from Gaios to this point.
In fact, a day trip to this small neighboring island is one of the obligated excursions when visiting Paxi. Apart from the great beaches, it is possible to have lunch at one of the open-air taverns.
In case of wanting to explore some more eccentric destinations, the abandoned village of Geramonachos can be visited. It is found at approximately half a mile in north direction from Gaios, right off the main road.
Visitors will find a particular atmosphere on this village, plenty of ancient houses, although some of them have become actually summer houses. |
