It is the capital town of the island and seat of municipality of Meganisi. Katomeri is situated about one kilometer inland from Vathi. It has got less than 500 residents. Katomeri is a typical Greek village with traditional architecture and friendly locals. The stone-built cottages and their vast courtyards with potted plants catch the immediate attention of the visitors to the village. Katomeri is not a crowded town. Rather it gives you the picture of a village that is untouched by

the modern world. Except for a few traditional taverns, bakery and a petrol station, you may not find many tourist facilities that are typical of famous Greek tourist spots. Atherino is the port in Katomeri. It is mainly used by fishing boats. Fishing and farming are the main activities of the village. Apart from the main cultivation of wine and olive, Katomeri also produces a variety of vegetables and fruits. The harbour is connected to nearby ports and villages by ferries.
