Meganisi has three beautiful villages, which provide scenic and serene settings. The villages of Vathi, Katomeri and Spartochori are the main settlements on the island. They have fish taverns, restaurants, bars and other shops that cater to the needs of tourists. Meganisi offers its visitors privacy because it still untouched by mass tourism, who generally head for other bigger Greek islands.
Vathi is the capital of Meganisi island, and along with Spartochori the main ports where ferries from Lefkada arrive and fishing boats moor. All villages offer a laid back atmosphere where people relax and enjoy an authentic view of Greece.
Meganisi island is lush green and it is surrounded by crystal clear water. Most beaches are unorganized and secluded, such as Spilia, Limonari, Pasoumaki and Agios Ioannis. The most popular beaches are found in walking distances from villages, while for really secluded beaches people have to go by boat. Tour boats also go to small islands around Meganisi and also to the famous sea cave of Papanikolis, where the legendary Greek sub marine Papanikolis had found shelter during the Second World War. |
