Mathraki (along with Othoni and Ereikoussa) is part of the Diapontia islands complex. Tiny in size and with very few permanent inhabitants, these three islands are located north of Corfu.
Mathraki is the smaller in size (3,1 sq.km) and southernmost of these islands, as it is only 4 nautical miles from Cape Arillas, Corfu. Boats start from Corfu Town, Sidari and Agios Stefanos to Mathraki, while it is also easy to rent yourself a boat and go there.

Tourism in Mathraki is not developed at all. There are only a few rooms to rent and a couple of taverns on the island. However, this is the reason that Mathraki has remained such a beautiful and unspoilt place.
The entire island is covered with greenery that consists of olive trees, pine trees and cypresses. The water is crystal clear in Mathraki and almost all beaches can be reached on foot or by boat.
Trekking paths run all over Mathraki and it will not take more than an hour to go from one side of the island to the other. Along the way, visitors will see small houses spread here and there in the forest.
The only village in Mathraki is Chorio, while some houses can also be found around Plakes, the main port. |

The most famous beach in Mathraki is Portello, which extends for long. It has crystal water and soft sand. The other beaches on the island are not that sandy. Most are pebbled, or even rocky, but their water is always crystal.
Other beaches to swim, apart from Portello, are Arvanitiko, Fyki and Apidies. Some have small ports for fishing boats.
