Location: On the southern side of the island
Description: Chora is also known as Kythira and it is actually a picturesque, small town. Its architecture is a mixture of Venetian and Cycladic elements.

:: Chalkos beach

Location: About 10 km from Chora
Description: Chalkos is a small cove surrounded by wild rocks. The water is clean, however you should be careful of the rocky seafloor. The road that leads there is rough.

:: Agia Pelagia beach

Location: 26 km to the north east of Kythira
Description: This beautiful beach is close to Agia Pelagia village. It is well organized, it has nice golden sand and clean water. It gets quite crowded in summer.

:: Avlemonas village

Location:
26 km from Chora town
Description: This small fishing settlement is nice to stroll along the waterfront and admire its rocky landscape. On top of a hill overlooking the village, there is a Medieval Castle.

:: The wine festival in Mitata

Location: About 17 km from Chora
Description: Every summer, a wine festival is held in Mitata, a mountainous village, to celebrate the production of wine. Eating local dishes, dancing traditional dances and drinking free wine constitutes the main activities of the festival.

:: Antikythira island

Location:
To the south of Kythira island
Description: This small island has only 50 permanent inhabitants. The largest village and port is Potamos. It can be accessed by boat from Kythira but it has only a few amenities.

:: The Cave of Agia Sofia

Location:
About 20 km from Chora and 2 km from Mylopotamos
Description: This cave is the most important of the island. It is a stalagmite cave and there is a chapel dedicated to Agia Sophia inside the chapel. It is said that her dead body was found there.

:: The Monastery of Agia Elesa

Location:
About 10 km from Chora town
Description: This Monastery is built on the site where Agia Elesa was tortured and died in order not to deny her faith to God. In fact, her grave is found at the yard of the Monastery. The road leading there is tough.

:: The Archaeological Museum of Kythira

Location:
In Chora town
Description: This Museum hosts findings from excavations all around the island, such as coins, small statues and ancient tools. The most famous exhibits of the Museum are the statues of Aphrodite with Eros and the Lion of Kythira.

:: The Venetian Castle of Avlemonas

Location: About 20 km from Chora, in Avlemonas village
Description: This Castle was built by the Venetians in the 16th century to protect the island from enemies and attacks. It is found at the entrance of Avlemonas harbour and the Lion of Saint Mark, the symbol of Venice, is engraved on it.

:: Stone bridges

Location:
In Livadi, Katouni and Potamos villages
Description: Many stone bridges are found along Kythira island that were used in the past to connect villages with each other. Each bridge has a remarkable architecture and some of them have been restored today.

:: The Valley of Neraida or Fonissa

Location:
Close to Mylopotamos village, 15 km from Chora
Description: This lovely valley is lush green and has old trees, a small lake and a waterfall. It is a great area to go for a stroll, especially in spring and autumn.
