General:
Kefalonia is a very large island and many different elements make up its unique character.
Indeed there are a lot of varied and often contrasting beaches, villages and areas of the island. At the far north you find Fiskardo and its community of yachting holiday makers. Working down from here there are some fantastic coastal scenes along the road on the way to Assos. This is perhaps the island’s prettiest village and a stunning sight from above.

The beaches on the west coast are very pleasant with their white rounded pebbles and it is here that you find Myrti, the world renowned beach.
Argostoli is also to the west on a peninsular that also has a few sandy beaches of its own. To the south of the island there is a string of beaches and villages but the latter are not as nice to look at as others on the island. In the south west are the two major villages Poros and Skala, both are major tourist hubs. |

Working up the east coast we come to Sami which has a fantastic beach in Antisamis and two caves which are well worth visiting.
The centre of the island is very hilly and the huge Mount Et rising above its smaller counterparts. Much of the terrain is heavily pined and there is wonderful wildlife on the island. And its not just on land with much of the surrounding sea awash with interesting fish and even seahorses. |
