Kefalonia Villages: Assos village in Kefalonia
Kefalonia Assos 01 Assos Kefalonia: Assos is a small and charming village. Assos can be found 36 kilometres from the capital of Kefalonia. It has about a hundred inhabitants and is one of the most picturesque and beautiful villages of the island. Dominated by the ruins of a 16th century Venetian castle, the village of Assos was built on a small peninsula that has the same name. Its traditional and charming atmosphere is created by the hospitality of its inhabitants, the traditional architecture, the narrow alleys and the excellent little taverns perched on the quayside that overlook the bay.

Our Impressions:
This is a beautiful village which you approach from a snaking road. It’s situated on an peninsula with a castle overlooking the delightful bay. Approaching from above the view is beautiful and the village on arrival is no disappointment. There are pink and white blooms everywhere as you walk down from the smallish carpark to the centre. Here there are a number of restaurants. The bay sits nearby. It is not very large and covered in grayish pebbles. The houses in the village are a variety of colours with pale yellow and blue the most picturesque. The roofs are tiled in different shades of orange.
Getting to the castle requires a very long walk among the light green olive trees. It is a hot journey and you eventually reach an archway. From here the ruins of the inner castle can be seen and you can walk along the ramparts enjoying the magnificent view of the village below. Aside from the entry arch and the outer wall the castle is pretty dilapidated.
