
Kefalonia is mainly famous for its succulent cheeses and
especially for its feta which is a traditional Greek cheese
(that can be found all over Greece) consisting in a combination
of goat’s and ewe’s milk.
The island of Kefalonia is also a candy paradise.
Its most famous pastries are the galaktoboureko (a custard
pastry), the mandoles (toasted almonds), the confetto
(baked quince), anise biscuits, barboule (caramelised
almonds), nougat, pastelli (a thick and hard sweet made
of caramelised sesame seeds) and the amygthalopita (almond
cake).
WINE
AND WINERIES
Kefalonia
is very famous for its excellent wine and has three
appellations of origin which are Robola (dry white wine),
Mavrodafni (sweet, thick and dark red wine) and Muscat
(sweet white wine.
The six famous producers of the island are Divino, Gentilini,
Metaxas, Soroke, Sclavos and Vitoratos.
Kephalonian wines are made of many varieties of grapes.
The grapes used for the Robola wine are the most famous
and must be cultivated in specific areas of the island
in order to own its official appellation of origins.
