Our trip to Kefalonia in August was sudden and short because we booked last minute flights and had only four days to spend, however it was very nice. Of course, you can't see the whole island in just four days but we saw most of it, the most beautiful parts.
The first thing to mention about Kefalonia is the wonderful beaches. We rented a car and toured around and the good thing is that roads are coastal, so we had the chance to see many beaches along our way. My favourite was Antisamos (surprisingly!!), although the famous Myrtos was also beautiful but a bit crowded. Xi and Poros were also great, the kind of tourism that beaches are organized but don't seem ugly.
Argostoli, the capital, was very busy, probably because all activities are there. Locals, tourists and traffic were all over the place. The cafeterias in Argostoli were always crowded. We had a hard time finding a good spot where we could sit and chat over coffee. However, the noise and the mad rush added a unique charm to this place.
We didn't see any archaeological sites in Kefalonia but we visited the Cave of Drogarati. Stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave were huge. The tour guide informed us that this cave entrance was exposed during an earthquake. This place has rare geological phenomena and is about 150 million years old. The most interesting feature of this cave is its temperature that remains always 18°C, although the humidity level can sometimes reach upto 90%.
