What draws me to the beautiful island of Kefalonia is the beguiling landscape of the region. On my visit to this island, I was completely mesmerized by the sight of the imposing mountains, the striking cliffs, the beautiful lush green vineyards and the stunning beaches.
We stayed at a resort in Lourdas. From there, each day we took our rented car and set off to tour this beautiful island. The capital city is Argostoli and it gets very busy in the daytime. It was very hard to find parking and we had to be very careful, because the locals drive very fast and careless. I think a municipal parking area is what Argostoli needs to get a little off traffic.
Most beautiful villages on Kefalonia were the villages on the slopes of the mountains. They had the best view to the green forests. The villages on the coasts were more touristic. Fiscardo in particular was a bit "created-of-tourism" village and it seems to live more of this. Assos was more traditional, but still something was missing. You could see rooms to let all over the small port and this was a bit sad sometimes.
On the other side, beaches on Kefalonia were more picturesque. If you don't like umbrellas and sunbeds, take the car and discover the small coves around Sami and Saint Efimia. Small pebbled coves with greenery around and some privacy: great for couples.
