Take the time to drive round the island
Date: Sep 03, 2007

Kefalonia Review:
Notwithstanding the recent fires, the island is very green with attractive scenery throughout. Hiring a car allows you to get round to most parts of the island in little more than 2-3 hours which means all areas are accessible regardless of where you are staying.

Best beaches:
Katelios is great for the kids as it does not have a steep drop and generally calm waters.
Myrtos is worth a visit, although not good for young kids or poor swimmers.
Lassi has a wonderful sandy beach although can get very busy and again has a steep drop.
Skala has a huge beach which means there is always enough room, but again this too has a steep drop although the water tends to be quite calm.

Stayed in Katelios which had a good selection of beach side restaurants and taverns. As the local resort was quiet it mean't that you always had a choice where you wished to eat, although depending on the time (normally after 9pm) they could get quite busy, but then there is nothing wrong with spending a couple of hours sitting in pleasant surroundings. It was not so much choosing a good resturant, but which one was the best given the extremely good standard and cost (meal for 4, drinks, deserts etc normally around £25-40 depending on how far you pushed the boat out !)
Fiskardo is worth a visit to see how the other half live. Stay longer! and ensure you take the time to drive round the island.
