Katelios Kefalonia: Katelios is a lovely sand beach to the East of Mounda between Skala and Lourda with a gentle slope to the sea making it shallow and ideal for a family vacation.

The back of the beach is covered by lush green hills with not much tourist resorts, as building is not allowed thanks to the EU Nature 2000 project. A couple of nice beachfront cafes and taverns are near the waterfront road at the back while a few parasols and chairs have been set on sand.
 
You can stroll along the shaded pavements to the tiny fishing village of Katelios and its olive and citrus groves in the valley. There is a mini-market and restaurant by the beach with fresh fish dishes. In summer months dancing and barbeques are arranged in these restaurants.

Be careful while walking on the roads in Katelios as they are known for speedy driving. Also visit the historical sights of the bell tower of St. Andrew, the St. George castle, the Mycenaean tombs and the roman water mills. Hiring a car or scooter from Skala is a good idea since the bus service is not consistent.
