Perachori Village Ithaca: The village of Perachori is situated on the slopes of the mountain Petaleiko. It is the most densely populated village of Ithaca. Perachori is located at a distance of 3 km from the capital Vathy. It is positioned at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level.
The mainstay profession of the local inhabitants who are mostly found on the south side is agriculture. The land here is rich and fertile and water is available in plenty,. Permanent residents number about 300 to 400. The people of Paleochora first inhabited the village of Perachori during the Venetian regime.
Paleochora, an old inhabitation, is situated higher up, and is reachable from the fringes of Perachori via an oft taken trail.Perachori village is highly recommended for the spectacular sight of the bay of Vathy along with the numerous tavernas offering authentic Greek cuisine.
There are plenty of cafes and rooms to stay on rent and soak in the pleasures of the village to its fullest.Excursion sites that can be visited include the Monastery of Taxiarchon, which is higher up, about 3 km via a trail, and situated 500 meters above sea level. |
