We liked Ithaca because it was not the typical Greek destination. If you are looking for sandy beaches and heavy nightlife, don't even think about it. But if you need to relax, then Ithaca is truly your place. The beaches were actually small coves but they were very beautiful, especially the ones you could approach only by boat. Food was fresh and homemade. Only hotel and store onwers could speak some proper English, but you will not have a communication issue, believe me. If you are a Westerner, though, there will be some things to bother you: rubbish on the sides of the streets, abandoned cars and, above all, smoking! This is not particular to Ithaca, but to all Greece. Greeks should ban smoking in public places, or at least create non-smoking areas.
