Our three days in Ithaca were enough to see a lovely, pure green island and relax. We went there after a week in Kefalonia and I have to say the two islands look a lot to each other: both green and relaxing, with wonderful beaches and villages, only Ithaca is less popular. Our studio was in Kioni, which is even more quiet than Vathi, the capital. On a hill above Kioni, there is a beautiful monastery with view to the whole island. A nice route for hikers. You will find the best fish taverns in Kioni and the good thing with taverns in Greece is that you can enjoy your meal for as much time as you want. Nobody hurries you to go. In fact, I noticed that the Greeks sit in taverns for about two hours(!!), which is very relaxing, especially on holidays. There are no ancient sites on Ithaca or castles to see, it is only good to swim and walk. I read in the paper that there are excavations there to find the palace of Ulysses but no luck till now.
