I have been to Ithaca many times before but still bought a travel guide to make sure I missed nothing! There is no place like the north of Ithaca. It's like stepping back in time with the stunning villages and amazing people who never forget you and you never forget. If you can get used to the pebbles, the beaches are idylic. Florindinos in Frikes is a good bar, great fun and still the place to be seen. Best cocktails are at the Zac in Stavros. The food on Ithaca is fresh and always delicious. Try Polyphemus in Stavros for a surreal dinning experience. Ithaca is great in everything, pure paradise. Do not change anything on the island, except bringing the ferry back to Vathy and not Piso Aetos but I understand the fuel issue.
