Located in the small village of Perahori, at two kilometres south of Vathy, this monastery was built in 1645, close to the top of a mountain.

Also built in the picturesque village of Perachori, this church is worth-seeing for its beautiful Byzantine frescoes among which the impressive icon representing the Dormition of the Virgin and its wood carved iconostasis brought by Saint Raphael. |

Kathariotissa, who is the saint patron of the island and whose feast day is celebrated with a big and very popular feast on the 8th of September.
Nobody knows the exact date of its construction but we know that the monastery was restored in 1696. Its main church (katholikon) has been operating since 1530 and has a beautiful iconostasis, and a fine icon representing the Birth of the Virgin and believed to have been painted by Saint Luke.
From the Monastery of Kathariotissa, visitors can enjoy a wonderful, panoramic view of Ithaca and its harbour. |

This church is worth-seeing for an ancient column standing in the altar which is probably from an ancient temple that used to stand in this area.

The nice church of Agia Varvara (Saint Barbara) can be found in the village of Exogi, lying the furthest away from the town, in the northern part of the island, and has a very interesting and beautiful wood carved temple.
