Ithaca Beaches: Marmaka beach in Ithaca Greece
Marmaka Beach Ithaca: Situated in the northern side of Ithaca, Marmaka Beach owns its name to the derivation of the word “marble”, since this lovely shingle beach is made of sea-smoothed white pebbles, looking like bits of fine marble and shimmering under the sun, in contrast with the emerald, mirror-like waters and the green of the surrounding trees.

Nearby this enchanting beach lies the picturesque island of Agios Nikolaos, right in the centre of the bay of the same name.

The splendid beaches of Brosaetos and Piso Aetos can be found west and east of the narrow isthmus of Aetos, the nice beach of Afales is close to the village of Stavros and the beautiful secluded beaches of Aspros Gialos, Koutoupi, Kedros, Vrisi and Kaminia offer an idyllic view and emerald-green waters.

More wonderful beaches can be found in Ithaca, most of them small and secluded, hidden on the innermost parts of the island. With a little will to explore, some deserted paradises can be discovered.

They are often quite hard of access but this is partly why they are magic. Hiring a boat from the villages of Kioni or Frikes gives the possibility to find some private little idyllic coves, gently dipping into the clean and pure water of the Ionian Sea.
