About 10,000 works of the Victorian artist Edward Lear (1812-1888) are scattered in private collections, Institutions and Museums around the world. About 3,500 have Greek theme and a large part of them refer to the Ionian Sea and his most favourite place in the world, Corfu. In fact, Edward Lear promoted the island of Corfu to the noblemen of Great Britain during the second half of the 19th century. These works of Lear connected to Corfu are presented in the painting exhition Edward Lear and the Ionian islands that opened last week and will last till the end of August, 2012. The exhibition is presented in the Museum of Asian Art in Corfu Town and this is the first time that the museum opens its doors to a periodical exhibition. The works are exhibited in three rooms of this museum, that used to be the Summer Palace of the Greek Royal Family till few years ago: in the Symposium Room, the Throne Room and the Rotonda.
