General:
Corfu is a fairly big island and contains a variety of contrasts. Much of the island is beautiful with its trademark cypress trees, hills and lovely coastline. On the other hand its hard to find such beauty in many of the tourist resorts which consist mainly of fast food outlets and sun wear shops.
Corfu is a large island and also contains mountain peaks. The capital is located on the east coast and here you will find a hive of activity with most of the tourist resorts located above and below it.

Away from here it is possible to find some remote, unspoiled areas. Indeed much of the island is undeveloped and it is still possible to drive down a quite road, surrounded by swallows and see a local woman carrying food upon her head.
The beaches here vary from the pebbly to the finely sanded. In vast contrast to other groups of islands you will find a lot of greenery here and from a high point, such as Kaiser’s Throne you can see the verdant layout of the island. |

The water around the island is clear with a great variety of blue colour. Wildflowers can be found on much of the island and the smell of the mountain herbs can be enjoyed.
The natural landscape lends itself well to picturesque areas such as Paleokatrisia and the caves around it. The island also has a rich history with castles to be found around the island along with churches that have a great past. |
