Originally the mansion was the property of the distinguished Kapodistrias family. Till the year 1969, the ground floor of this palatial edifice housed the numerous offices of the Corfu Prefecture while the upstairs was exclusively meant to serve as residence for the prefects. The mansion underwent extensive restoration work in 1979, in order to help preserve this historical building for generations to come.
