Corfu Roman Baths

The Roman Baths of Corfu: One may spot Roman Baths in plenty of spots around Corfu, namely Benitses, Palaeopolis, and Acharavi. For example, the baths found in the picturesque fishing village of Benitses are a must-visit since their color-filled mosaic floorings have details that are still visible to this day, boasting impressive geometrical shapes and designs! Found between houses, this Roman Bath was probably the house/mansion of a wealthy individual back in the day.

Furthermore, the baths at the site of Paleopolis, located near the gorgeous Basilica of Palaeopolis, are believed to have been constructed around the 1st and 2nd century A.D. Although they were subsequently destroyed by an earthquake in the 6th century, visitors can still witness the heating chamber and the hypocaust of the baths!

In addition, the Acharavi Roman Baths, no more than a few minutes away from Roda Beach, are believed to be a main part of a larger Roman building in northwestern Corfu. During the construction of a road, these baths were heavily damaged, though they were later rediscovered in 1985 and are still preserved (and open to the public) to this day!
