We have been to Corfu many times. We originally chose the place because of a book I had on Corfu Islands. I looked through brochures for a place on the island that was green and reasonably quiet. Once we had visited we drove all around the island and knew we had chosen the right spot, northeast, which is by far the prettiest area. We have since visited Corfu about 8 times.
The villages in the north east coastal area are beautiful, hard to get to as down steep roads but well worth the effort. Inland the villages are lovely, with spectacular views. Nightlife in the North east is informal and not too energetic, mostly restaurants and bars for entertainment. Clubs etc can be found further south (Kavos/Corfu Town) though in the North Sidari and Roda offer a few. Beaches are great, a few blue flag beaches. Some lovely little coves and secret beaches to visit by boat as well as long sweeping beaches Acharavi).
There are also so many to choose from food. Most of the tavernas and restaurants offer the same menu, typical greek dishes with some other eurpoean influences. Plenty of choice for everyone. Some good fish restaurants too, but these are mostly in beachside tavernas. Bars and coffee shops are in abundance, many sell lovely cakes and a variety of icecream sundaes.
Anyone visiting the North of the island will love it immediatelly. Those visiting the south should definitely take a trip north for the contrast. Hire a car even for a day and see the sights of Paleokatritsa, Kalami, Perithia, Aghios Giorgios and visit Corfu Town even if it's just for the fabulous jewellery shops.
