This was my second time in Corfu, but the first was only for three days so it doesn't really count! This time, I stayed for two weeks and I can tell you, I feel in love with this island! We stayed in a villa in Agios Stefanos but also rented a car so we drove all over
Corfu and stopped wherever we liked to enjoy the scenery.
Corfu has a lot of monuments to see. My favourite was climbing up Angelokastro (near Paleokastritsa). The sun, the storng wind, the view, the isolate... Excellent, an experience to remember for a lifetime! My daughter also loved the Palace of Empress Sissi (Achillion), a very romantic place on the road to Benitses. Opposite the palace, there is a nice business that makes cum-quat, the traditional liqueuer of Corfu. There you can taste cum-quat for free. In Benitses, visit the Sea Shell Museum, kids will love it.
No need to talk about the beaches in Corfu. Every single one is wonderful, from the south to the north. The north has the best beaches for me and the south has the best nature. However, both should be taken better care of. I think it is unbelievable that many people smoke on the beach and put their cigaretters off in the sand!!! How is this possible? The worst thing is that the authorities rarely clean up the beaches afterwards! Thank God, in winter, these beaches are empty and have the chance to clean themselves. Nature is obviously more clever than people...
We found the best fish taverns in Kassiopi, northern Corfu, but be careful where you sit because prices differ a lot from place to place! Have in mind that fresh fish are bought by kilo, they don't have standard price and you choose which fish you want to get cooked.
Trust me, you will have excellent holidays in Corfu! Surely we'll be back soon!
